No, not necessarily. You may consult a practitioner at Wessex Health without a doctor's referral. Your Doctor will be informed of treatment unless you instruct otherwise. Chartered Physiotherapists work in close co-operation with GP's and this relationship is for the ultimate benefit of you, the patient.

How quickly will I be seen for my first appointment?
This will depend on the treatment for which you are attending, however we will make every effort to book an appointment within 24 - 48 hours.

How many treatments will I need?
There is no pre-determined number of treatments as every condition is individually evaluated, based on the person, their condition and activity expectations. Following your initial assessment you will be advised of an appropriate treatment plan and this will include advice regarding the approximate number of treatments you may require.

This depends on the injury and type of treatment you require, but expect to be in the clinic for up to one hour..

What should I expect upon arrival?
For physiotherapy and sports massage appointments you will be asked to fill in a personal details form. Please arrive a few minutes earlier than your appointment time in order to fill in this form.

What should I expect from the initial consultation?
The first appointment will consist of a comprehensive examination during which your chartered physiotherapist/sports massage therapist will collect important information about your condition and other relevant health problems. This will be followed by an appropriate physical examination to determine a course of treatment. At the end of the assessment your therapist will explain the examination findings to you and discuss the proposed treatment plan which will normally begin straight away.

When should I seek treatment following injury?
It is always advisable to seek treatment as soon as possible. Early treatment can mean a quick recovery with less time off work.

What should I wear for my appointment?
For physiotherapy and sports massage appointments please wear appropriate underwear and bring shorts/vest top with you as you may have to undress to your underwear.

Is the cost of treatment covered by medical insurance?
Physiotherapy is covered by medical insurance, however this does depend on the individual policy and all patients should check with their insurer. Some health insurance companies require a medical referral, so it is best to check with your provider prior to your first visit.
